Peter Head and Pitchfork Militia, Joyous Lake, Woodstock, NY 6/23/00 - The Pitchfork faithful were treated to a generous serving of the manic rockabilly punk and humorous lyrics of Peter Head and company since there was no support act for this show. The long set allowed for an exhibition of their full range, including jazzy percussion in the humorous sendup of small town life, Crackskill, and a faster rendition of River Song which belied the calm desperation of the main character who faces death as if it has always been expected. Other elements fans have come to expect were present - the trombone and banjo stylings of bassist Karl Krause and the frenetic psychic swirl and sweet wailing of Peter Head’s guitar. - EAK
