Happy Halloween, Thanksgiving, and so on, and so on...
I heard recently that one of the most popular costumes this year would be Martha Stewart in prison stripes. ... It’s a bad thing. Ah shucks, the world’s against her because she’s a powerful woman. Built an empire on pastry and home decorating. Big deal. We’ve got bigger fish to fry.
Fortunately at this writing, the DC-Area-Suburb-Beltway-Washington-Maryland-Sniper has been caught. That means I can drive down the coast with fewer worries. Seems I heard something about marines landing at Iraq, but I’m almost as behind on that as I am with the World Series. I guess they declared a winner after game seven? There’s trouble, plenty of it overseas.
By now everyone knows about the gas they pumped into that Russian theater. Speculation this week is that it was a form of concentrated synthetic opiate. Great! 120 or so dead from a government-induced overdose, essentially, that might have seen them locked in prison for life had they chosen to induce it themselves.
By the time most of you read this, there will be newly elected or reelected stiffs in most states. In New York, an Independent Party challenger had outspent Gov. Pewacki by about $15 mill to George’s $12 mill. The Democrat had spend about $4 mill at press time, with the election less than a week away. That’s more than $30 million that could have been spent on AIDS research, ending hunger, renewable energy research or anything else. $30 million fuckin’ dolleros wasted If you ask me.
