Merril Bainbridge “between the days” Universal. Did Merril get a third shot after this and her debut “the Garden.” I don’t know. But just as I loved her sound and the sound of her clever pop tunes on that one, this also makes for good, easy listening. In 1996 her pop smash “Mouth” was all over the radio and TV, just to jog your memories in this, the new millennium. If you’re at all familiar with the first CD, the instrumentation here will be warmly familiar. The keys, combined with the bass backbone and drums, are curiously uniquely Merril Bainbridge. Other acts don’t sound like this. Really. When she make self-referential moves, like in “Lonely,” she stirs up the memory of older songs without resting on those laurels. I hope there is another CD from this Aussie tease. Hell by now, there could be two. - Ment
